I am an application developer with a strong interest in biotechnology, genomics to be more specific. It seems like I never seen any jobs advertised for IT positions in these fields. It is hard, or basically impossible, for someone with a degree in programming (CIS) - but no biology degree - to get a position with such a firm?
How does a person with a programming background break into the genomics or biotechnology field?
If you are looking to do join a pure research company (I would put pharamceuticals in that category), then you will have a tough time.
What you might want to try is to get into one of the many instrumentation companies that feed the research industry. Agilent, Waters, Thermo finigan, Dionex, Metrohm, Symyx are all examples of instrumentation companies most of which have at least a small market share serving the biotech industry.
Anyways, all these instruments need software to run them and to collect and analyse the data. If you can get into a position programming these instruments, it will give you a lead into the biotech field.
If you insist only on doing pure biotech research type of work, go to university for a degree.

Is there a computer program that will help me Graph equations and inequalities?
I am taking online courses and I have to graph equations and inequalities. I know that you can supposedly do this on Excel but I have become incredibly lost and confused trying to do so. I am in desperate need of an easy-to-use program to help me. If anyone knows of a program can they PLEASE HELP ME? and if noone knows of another program, does anybody atleast understand how to use Excel to do this and can explain it? Any help would be very much appreciated.

What is the best websites to find the cheapest freelancers for website design and database programming?
I wish to post a web design project which needs some database programming, but I have a very low budget. I'd be grateful if someone could help me out...
What is the best websites to find the cheapest freelancers for website design and database programming?
www.guru.com
you put your job online (free) and get a bunch of pros and freelancers to bid on it. you can contact them by phone and ask questions. you then pick out the best one for your needs and none of this costs you anything.
Reply:Im not sure about where to find inexpensive freelancers online, but if there's a college in your area try contacting someone over there. I'm a graphic design student and whenever a company or individual needs our help they either post a flyer or contact one of our professors who then asks us. The more compitition between students means an overall better product and cheaper cost for you.

How much programming is required for financial engineering?
I am currently a BS - math major and considering various grad programs. As far as financial engineering/mathematics, how much computer programming should I have as an undergrad? I have taken 2 semesters of Java and will take at least 1 additional course in "numerical methods in computing". Should I try to do some self study with C++??? That seems to be the language of preference in this industry.
How much programming is required for financial engineering?
Knowledge of C++ will help you with admission into a FE program as well as help you with your studies when you're there. However, it is not a required prerequisite at most of the FE masters programs.

Is a college diploma in Computer Programming sufficient to get me a good paying job?
Only Canadians, please, because in other countries 'college' means a different thing.
I will be graduating with a Geography degree from Wilfrid Laurier next year and I wanted to do GIS. I'm thinking that getting a diploma in college in computer programming will increase my chances for succesfull employment because I looked around at GIS jobs, and most of them require high computer proficiency.
Also, are Canadian colleges as recognized world wide as universities?
Thanks.
Is a college diploma in Computer Programming sufficient to get me a good paying job?
It doesn't matter what diploma. A diploma alone is not sufficient for anyone to be certain of getting a good paying job.
As the previous person said, you have to have experience.
You also have to prove your diploma is more than a piece of paper. You have to show you actually learned something and didn't only do just enough on tests to pass.
You have to interview well. People who interview poorly rarely get hired. When they do get hired, they often get hired into poor jobs.
You have to have some idea of what you want to do and why. The answer cannot be money. Technology employers don't want people who just want to make money.
It sound like you have a plan that makes sense, though. Good luck.
Reply:No, a diploma itself won't.. But it will help you get a foot in the door...
The thing that really piles on the Bucks is experience.. I've been in the business now for over 20 years.
My first IT wage packet was £1,200 ($2,300) per month (Before tax) as a mainframe operator...
I now make that a week, after tax as a Senior Project Engineer..
Experience, experience, experience...
And to answer your other question... People with degrees from non-UK colleges are viewed with suspicion TBH.. As it's more difficult to check their credentials.
(Good luck)

How do I start a exercise program and diet to help me loose my extra baby weight?
Ok all women gain weight while pregnant, so now what? I want to loose my extra weight. But how? Is there any easy diet and exercise program out there for me? I have never had to really exercise or watch my weight before. I hate it, I hate my body. I want to loose weight and feel great about myself again. But I just don't know where to begain. Any ladies out there with this same problem? Have you done this and looked great? What's your secrets? Please help.
How do I start a exercise program and diet to help me loose my extra baby weight?
All people are different so a diet and exercise program that works for one person may not work for you. I suggest trying a few different programs and making a decision on what works best for you. You'll want to try the program out for about a month before you'll get good enough results to make an accurate decision.
Body for Life is a good program that includes both diet and exercise. The South Beach Diet is a diet program. Slim and Six is a rigorous exercise program. These are just a few that I can think of right away. You could also check out a website such as http://www.diet.com/productsbase/show_ca... This will give you some diet reviews so you can find other options.
The key with a diet and exercise program that will help you to lose weight is simply to eat fewer calories in a day than what you burn. As long as you do that, you will see results and feel better about yourself. Just stick with whatever you decide to do and don't give up on anything right away. Patience is a good thing to have. When you start to see the results that you're looking for, don't be afraid to give yourself a treat every now and again. Eating a fattening but delicious meal over the weekend is okay! Make sure you don't get obsessive over lose the weight and your body and it should all work out over time.
I hope this helps you out. Good luck. =)
Reply:www.bodyforlife.com it's the best healthiest eating and excercise program out there. Check out this site. There is also a book just for women and a cook book with quick easy recipes. I'm in great shape becasue of this
Reply:If you just had a baby, you would be surprised how much weight nursing takes off. It makes your abdominal muscles contract.
Walking 30 minutes a day is beneficial. Get out with that stroller.
Reply:Start by walking and cut down on all food.
Reply:If you want to loose excess weight, you need to modify your diet to some extent by cutting down on calories. But make sure that it is nutritious, or else it will only increase your appetite and make you feel hungry, when your main goal is trying to loose weight. Exercising regularly is equally important. For long term fat loss, the exercise program should consist of a combination of weight training and aerobic exercises. Reply:Don't eat. Drink lots of water, juices , blender stuff. (to get yourself to a good start
Then eat tiny meals 1 toast for breakfast. Few bites for lunch of something.
DON'T serve yourself a plate at dinner - because all that tasting when you cook and while cleaning up the leftovers is enough.
Fruits 4 snack
For me the ONLY thing that worked off 3X's baby fat.
Inspiration came from friend who got jaw wired shut for 6 week (for accident)
And from stories in the news about people who got lost in woods for approx 4 days.
After about 3 mo. my grand who is 90 yrs old said I looked nice. Then glared, What, your not eating? (how did she know)
Reply:depends on if your breastfeeding
if yes: walk, eat less, no sugar,
if no: diet pills, eat less, exercise,
