Currently I am receiving all my programming through cable. Some of my TVs are analog cable ready which are directly corrected to the cable system without a cable box. After the 2009 cut over to digital, will I be able to continue to receive programming on these TVs without a digital box, using either a generic digital converter or without a converter at all as I am currently using. Will the cable companies continue to offer analog programming over the wire or will they force their customers to get a set top boxes. In other words, are they still obligated to continue to provide analog programming after this point?

If you continue to use cable, you will not be affected by the 2009 transition. The 2009 transition affects only Over The Air (OTA) broadcasts, cable and satellite providers should still support analog until about 2012.
If you wish to receive OTA programming, you will need to upgrade to a digital TV receiver or get a converter box and hook up to an antenna.
Reply:The big answer is, yes, you cant use your existing equipment to recieve over the air broadcast television signals. small answer is you wont have to, since you will need a cable box for any DTV signals... on the nice side most cable channels will be another 30 years converting so a simple cable connection will still work for the next 20 years analog, they want to push the digital, but make you rent the converter as they have for the last 10 years. the first 100 channels of your channel line up are analog using that box, have been since they started, that will not change easily. Cable TV providers will not allow us to access thier digital channels without a box, that will not change. The FCC has nothing to do with it at this time.

What is the best software for windows programming?
I am looking for the best programming language/toolkit combination for windows GUI programming. Free and/or open source software is prefered, but commercial tools are an option as well. Speed of development and speed of compiled software are factors to some extent as well.

How String data references can be turned off when programming?
How String data references can be turned off when programming? For an example, if you know WDASM32 tool (exe dissembler software), when you dissembles an exe, it will show probable text of message boxes the application has. When dissembling some exes, these string references are completely 0 and not a clue to find where things are going on? While programming how these string references turned off and not show when dissembled in any dissembler program? I bet this has nothing to do with the turning ON and OFF the debugging symbols while compiling. Can some please educate me in this matter. Thank you.

Is there a program to help pay for doctor visits, prescription medications, and other medical bills?
I have started having some serious medical problems over the last year and I need to be examined. I have no way to pay for anything. I cannot find a job but even if I do I still won't be able to pay for all the tests and medications I may need. My parents are supporting me but they can't afford to help me with this. I have no insurance and I am not eligible to get on their insurance. I am only 20 and I have been having symptoms associated with diabetes, hypothyroidism, depression, acid reflux, and too many others to list. I also was in a car accident (mechanical defect) where I had a seemingly minor head injury but I have been started having headaches and pain in my eyes and other problems that I believe may be from the accident. I don't know what to do. I am so scared that there may be something seriously wrong with my head. Does anyone know where I can get help?

you dont say where you are, but if you are in the united states, there are programs out there - they just make them hard to find... i just got through having to have a $30,000 hospital stay with no insurance - i live in texas... the county has a program to sign up for at the county hospital (parkland) but since i dont live in county, there is a seperate program just called "charity medical care" for those outside dallas county... just go to them and dont tell them your parents support you, they will consider you and your income (which is none) and be able to direct you to the appropriate programs which will help with doctor bills and medication costs ... also, as far as medications go, all the drug manufacturers in the usa have a charity/lowincome program... just go their websites (like glaxo, smithkline, ect) and they have it under programs ....

What kind of programming language can i use to practice with at home?
I want to become a computer programmer and have been taking some classes. I've been using FutureBASIC on the mac (they only use this at school) but I want to keep practicing at home. Anyone know something that can help a newb like me? The program has to work on Windows and not Mac.

The best programming language out there is C++ in many people's opinions, but I suggest you learn visual basic completely first, to get a grip on windows programming. Then move onto visual C++. Go to msdn.microsoft.com, and get a download for visual basic 2005 express edition, install it, (its free) and then get some tutorials on the net, and you should be reasonable in 1-3 days, and great in a couple of weeks. I don't want to bash the bigger guys, but, they won't accomplish as much good with your money as your local shelter may be able to do.. Certainly don't donate to PETA unless you like paying for ads.. They spend 83% of their donations on advertising themselves and only 8% helping living breathing animals.. I'd go with the local shelter myself.. Just read what they're about first and decide which one you support..

Well for starters , you need to determine which social services you are going to target: family; children; teenagers; seniors; homeless; mental illness; Basically you would need a Masters in Social Work with a minor in Political Science. You have to understand what the needs of your target group is in order to develop a program. Most programs are developed after conducting surveys of social and economic conditions and analyzing services available and identifying any gaps in services. This is where the programs are identified and developed based on a community need. Since nothing happens without money you will also need an understanding of the grant writing process and since most grants given are based on their merit to provide a needed community service you also have to back up your request with lots of data. Then you have to find a site to conduct a pilot project and identify if your program is working or needs some improvements. A program is never static but always evolving, sometimes to meet the political flavor of the day. The Political Science part comes when you have to understand the politics involved and the lobbying sometimes associated with getting grants to develop a program. Anyhow its a long process but gives a warm fuzzy feeling when you see the program making a difference in peoples lives.... Good Luck...

If you don't LOVE programming, and if you're tempted to pursue another career like medicine, the other choice could be worth thinking about. You can always code in your free time at home. You can't perform surgery at 4am at home in the dark with a Mountain Dew in hand.

I am new to this, but am wondering if any of you have adult children in residential treatment programs for people with developmental disabilities? How do you go about funding something like this? I am looking for a program that will give me a good stipend but also is a respectable school. My undergraduate grades are ok (3.0 GPA) and my graduate grades are excellent (3.9 GPA) so I don't qualify for ivy league, but I want a good program that will help me get a job at as a professor in a good university.

Being a tester is great and all, but the measly pay isn't going to pay the bills. I've tried writing reviews for games but I can't seem to. I'm pretty good at video games, but I'm not the best, and wouldn't make a top spot in competitions (I've tried). I've also tried programming and I couldn't take the monotony, it wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy, but sitting down for hours wasn't something I could take.
So do senior testers make more? Is there some other position I haven't thought of?

In this case, you will sell your game knowledge and passion and offer to learn the marketing and sales stuff which is doable. You gotta inventory your transferable skills.
Search job boards and gaming company career sites for openings to see what the qualifications are. Also, work your network for people who know people who work in gaming companies as the best way to get a job is through personal referral.

What programs are available to help parents with disabled children?
My daughters daycare is kicking her out because she is going to have serial casting as treatment for her Spastic Cerebral Palsy. She will not be able to walk without use of a walker, and for the first two weeks she will have to crawl or be carried. She's almost three, so she's not too big to help.
When we enrolled her in the daycare we sat down with them and explained everything, I have her registration papers that say what she has and what was going to happen and they agreed to take her, do they have the right to kick her out? They signed the paper, isn't that a binding agreement? We're in the middle of nowhere and we can't afford a private aide or sitter, we have three daughters all together and her medical costs are sending us over the edge. If I do have to find her somewhere else to go, are there any programs to help cover the cost?

What would be the smartest financial decision? Video Game Programming or Robotics Programmuing?
I love them both but I need to choose the smartest one. I would feel much more satisfied knowing I programmed a robot that landed on another planet and made discoveries as to releasing the next "big" video game. But I just don't know. I am 20 and still new to college. I am currently in for video game programming.

Video Programming and Design is "hot" right now. Georgia Tech, a very exclusive engineering university in downtown Atlanta, now offers a "degree" in this area. This is a business that grows each year with "all ages" purchasing, playing, all over the world. Anticipation of "new" games only "fuels" the "craze".
Robotic Programming touches different avenues. Utilized by many government agencies, manufacturing, etc. this is a growing industry, as well. Robotics is used by the military, NASA, auto manufacturers, and very demanding by others. There maybe one drawback for some, the idea of "service". My cousin is "brilliant" to say the least, graduate of Georgia Tech in Electrical Engineering, in 1980's "hired" by a new robotics company, and began a career selling, designing, training, and extremely successful. His dad, my uncle, was a V.P. for General Motors in Atlanta and went to see what his son was up to in business. Discussion came up of possibilities to assembly of automobiles. Needless to say, a success story for my cousin and the automobile industry, but he is on call everyday, at times, stays at the GM plant in North Atlanta for days, servicing, reprogramming, updating, etc.
Financially, either, but if you "love" video games do something you really enjoy, Video Game Programming. Remember as well, competition in the job market is "dog eat dog". Maintain high GPA and look into an "intern" program to participate.

Nielsen surveys a sample group in each city. They make sure the sample size (though often very very small) is an exact replica of the cities age, sex, race, working/unemployeed, etc. If 10% are hispanic men between the ages of 18-24, then 10% of their sample size will be sent to hispanic men 18-24. Since the samle is an exact mock up of the city, they then assume that everyone in the city watches the same way and just multiply it out. (ie if the city is one million people and has 10% men18-24, or 100,000. They may send out the survey to 100 of them. Of the 100, 10 watched show X - or 10%. They then take that 10% and assume the 100,000 men 18-24, 10,000 of them watched that show because their survey said 10%.
The way the survey is done is dependant on the city. A small city is done by "dairies". They ask the sample group to write down what they watch. This is done four months out of the year (Feb, May, July, Nov) and this is why you networks have Sweeps where all the shows are great and nothing is in rerun during these months - except July. The diary system is not very accurate because people often dont take the time to fill it out and when they do it is usually at the end of the week and they are trying to remember what they watched.
In medium cities they have "Meters". This is a device hooked up to your tv that records what you watch. This is more accurate than "diaries" but still cannot tell who in the home watched (the wife, the husband, a friend that was over). They use the meters for daily viewing records but still use diaries during sweeps to determine who was watching.
The major cities (NY, Chicago, LA, Boston, Dallas, etc) use "People Meters". These are devices put in the home that not only record what is being watched but who it was watching it. More cities are rolling out with this each month. Because the networks own many of the tv stations in major citites it effects them the most. This is why you are seeing more programming than ever before, mid season replacemnets, reality shows during the summer, etc. As more and more cities get these, the era of Sweeps will be over as measurements are taken daily.

What is the best children programming on Television?
My son watches those exact shows every morning, with the addition of Clifford the Big Red Dog and Word World!
Those are the only programs he will watch all day long, unless there is a basketball or football game on later in the evening. He loves those games.

I am tired of the computer getting the best of me, I want to be computer literate and be able to program my computer and repair it when it goes down. A future business opportunity wouldn't bother me either! Any help as to where to start?

Do I need a local permit to do programming consulting work at home? I don't expect any visitors. I just want to use the home office to do programming work and want to deduct some tax. Thanks.

You can check in the phone book's gov't page under licensing to determine if your locale will require a license. As for the home office deduction - this is one of the IRS's biggest flags on returns. In order to use a home office, the 'office' must be used exclusively for business. You cannot place a home office on your tax return if you business is run out of your den, your living room or from your dining room table. It must be used exclusively for the conduct of your business, and strangely as it may seem, if you choose to do your personal banking or web surfing from that room, you immediately disprove the allowance. IE: you have a spare bedroom that you can convert into an office. Wonderful, then remove the bed, cause once you have a guest, it is just a space in a spare room. However, you can use that space as your home office on your tax returns. The secret is this: You need to measure the size of the 'space' or room you have dedicated to your home office and prorate that to the rest of the house. If the space or room is 5x5 and the rest of the houe is 10x10 then you need to figure the percentage of the house that is taken up by the space/room. which in this case is (i think) to be about 25% (5x5 being 25, and 10x10 being 100). If I figured correctly, then you may ONLY deduct 25% of your homes utilities, (light, heat, water, sewer or septic, etc) rent or mortgage, insurance and what other expenses you may have for your house.
I would visit the IRS's website and find out more by searching 'home office deduction' or 'business use of the home'. Publication 587 is the one you want.

This is about India . I do not know about the rules in the country you are living . But it should be allowed without a permit . If the permit does not cost you anything , better have it. Like people to give them a temporary home and help them find jobs.

The Salvation Army does alot of great work to help homeless people...And other charities and churches have shelters and food pantrys, soup kitchen etc...
The US govt doesn't do much to help anyone who is homeless...

Chrysler Voyager SE year 2000 (Key Fob Programming) HELP?
When I purchased my car it came with one key and one fob.
I can get a replacement key for my car inc progamming for £65 + vat.
However I have accquired a second fob which has the same part number on it as my original fob and the batteries in it seem to be working OK.
Can anyone help or give me instructions on how to programme my spare fob, so that it works in the same way as my original fob.

While still holding unlock button down, press panic button, then release both buttons. chime should sound once to indicate body control module (BCM) has a grounded the RKE module program enable wire. 3. Repeat step 2) for all transmitters that will be used by vehicle. Up to a total of 4 transmitter can be programmed. Programmed mode will last for 30 seconds. to exit programming mode sooner, turn ignition off.

It mainly depends where you live and various specs about your house and your income, etc. Check these links out and see what is available where you live. It will generally be in the form of tax credits, so if your income is low enough where you don't pay taxes, you may not be able to benefit from these programs. But hey - check it out and give it a shot.
