To be honest, there are very few similarities between HTML and Java.
HTML is what they call a "markup" language, and is an "interpreted" language, not a compiled one like Java. Basically, all HTML does is define the appearance and layout for webpages. When a page is loaded, the browser "reads" the HTML for the page, and it tells it where to put the various elements, what colors to make them, etc. It is not capable of performing any kind of logical checks, calculations, or data manipulation - it just defines appearance.
Java, on the other hand, is a full blown, 3rd generation programming language, capable of performing sophisiticated data manipulations and calculations. Java is a compiled language, meaning that before a Java program can be run or redistributed, it must be "compiled", which basically turns the code into a language that the computer can more easily understand.
Typically, HTML is used for the "front end", and Java is used for the "middle tier", connecting to a database at the "backend". Hope this helps a little.

How to connect a coin slot to my computer and what programming language should be use?
We have this project which we called the Digital Photo Printing vending machine where it accepts input of digital photos by the use of bluetooth tech, memory card reader and mmc. You can only print your photo if you are to insert the right amount of coin.
The problem is, I keep on thinking where should i connect the coin slot? is it through parallel? or serial port? or any other bright ideas?
What program should be used to build an application that would accept the 3 input choices and will manipulate the printing and detection of how much amount is already been paid?
This concept is same as the popular kodak photo kiosk only it is not a vending machine.. i wonder what programming language did they use for the application?

Reply:the language wont matter, its the same general princple for using any low order device. the connection type of the device is up to the harware you trying to use...
the coin slot in this case will cause and input event everytime a coin is passed into it, the 'value' of the coin will be a specific event, you have to write a either a low level driver to control inputs to your program shuch that it gives human useable events, OR use a low level o/s hook to caputre the device event from windows (which will be a string) and through trial and error (easy enuf... enter one coin and record what it is) find each coin then write the correct response into your program.
and the KPK program was probably done in c++ or a variant
Reply:There is a device called an IPAC that they still may sell for the PC. This is used as keyboard intervention by device. So basically if you have a piece of software that will translate the coin drop as hitting say the letter C or F etc it should then register in your program through the IPAC interface.
You might check out arcade devices because you are sure to find a device thats already built to interface with your project.

I have been running Ubuntu for months now. When it is used with the Automatix application, I get almost all the functionallity of Windows without the issues associated with spyware and virui.

First,,,if you have no antivirus program,,,download a free for home use copy of Avast antivirus,,,then set it up so it scans during boot up,,,,then get a copy of Spysweeper,,,and run it.
after all of this,,go get a copy of ZoneAlarm,,,also free for home use,,,after doing all of this,,if your PC is still screwed up,,,then you should consider doing a clean install of your windows software.

This problem isn't "finding the maximum and minimum" but rather maximizing or minimizing a given linear functional on a set of real variables, given a set of linear inequalities on the variables.

I need a good community based kids program for my kids to join or help start up. Do you know a good one?
I'm looking to start something for my kids, mainly after school, something a home schooler parents would like so that other families could join them. (I'm not a home schooler parent). I would like them to have hands on experiences in being able to develope small skills to build character and confidence and to be able to help themseves and others. At home skills, tools, car care, any thing related to or around the home including cooking and sewing. Looking for projects but nothing in the way of sports; excepting hiking and camping. Any thing out doors would be great. Also day trips to business "friendly" local business locations, including farms and ranches. I'm a retired teacher and counselor. so how do you create them?
first grab these when creating your own.
1. every function has name and you are the one who chooses it. e,g add
2. all function names are followed by brackets ()

3 a function may or may not need parameters to perform its task. e.g (in ms excel when you type sum(50,10) the 10 and 50 are parameters to the function sum()
4. a function may or may not return a value when called( ask me incase you need more on this)
5. to use a function call it by its name. eg add(2,5), printf("are you with me?").

It is not really any hell. It is a heaven. A function is any block of code that does "something". Ok, what's this something? Well, it may print your name, calculate average, calculate some formulae... What's the use, you may ask, saying I'll better do this in the program itself? This is the actual use: Suppose you need to print your name 100 times but not in a loop. (i.e., when the program starts you need to print, then after some x value is displayed you need to print.. like that...). So, you can't print in a loop. So, function helps you in this situation... You write a function PrintName() and call it whenever you need to print your name.. So, there's no need to type printf ("My name is ..."); 100 times. Instead you type PrintName (); 100 times.. This is a simple example.. A function does a lot more than this... Refer books on C for details...

To understand it in a better way, imagine a human analogy about this: imagine if you want to tell somebody to sit down for five seconds then stand up for ten seconds then catch a ball before he throws it, and you want him to do that many times, would you repeat all instructions everytime, or you would prefer to "teach" him a gesture so he does all that if you clap for example!

standard functions are those that are shipped along with the programming language ready for use e,g printf() scanf() main(), fflush() etc.
user defined functions are those ones you create and use on you own.
e.g you can create a function whose name is add() which when called adds two numbers and displays the result. e.g when you type add(10,20) you see 30 on the screen.
so how do you create them?
first grab these when creating your own.
1. every function has name and you are the one who chooses it. e,g add
2. all function names are followed by brackets ()
e.g add()
3 a function may or may not need parameters to perform its task. e.g (in ms excel when you type sum(50,10) the 10 and 50 are parameters to the function sum()
4. a function may or may not return a value when called( ask me incase you need more on this)
5. to use a function call it by its name. eg add(2,5), printf("are you with me?").

It is not really any hell. It is a heaven. A function is any block of code that does "something". Ok, what's this something? Well, it may print your name, calculate average, calculate some formulae... What's the use, you may ask, saying I'll better do this in the program itself? This is the actual use: Suppose you need to print your name 100 times but not in a loop. (i.e., when the program starts you need to print, then after some x value is displayed you need to print.. like that...). So, you can't print in a loop. So, function helps you in this situation... You write a function PrintName() and call it whenever you need to print your name.. So, there's no need to type printf ("My name is ..."); 100 times. Instead you type PrintName (); 100 times.. This is a simple example.. A function does a lot more than this... Refer books on C for details...

What are considered "corner points" in linear programming?
In precalc we are currently learning linear programming. However, my teacher isn't very good at explaining things. I understand that corner points are solutions to the inequalities, but what I don't understand is how you determine which set of solutions are corner points. Because aren't there numerous solutions? So how do you determine which ones to use for finding the max and min of the objective function? Any help would be great. Thanks.

If you determine all your inequalities and graph them, they will give you a shaded area for the entire system. Any point in the shaded region makes the inequalities true, but MINIMUM and MAXIMUM values always occur at a corner point along the outside of your shaded area.
So, find the intersection points of each side of your shaded figure. If it was in the shape of a triangle, there are 3 corner points on the triangle. A rectangle, parallelogram or trapezoid would have 4 corner points. Find all of their coordinates.
Then you will generally have a price formula or minimum cost formula with x and y variables in it. Plug your corner point values into this equation (which is not graphed) and find your minimum or maximum value that the problem wants.

I need help writing a letter requesting adjournment for good cause for my Paralegal Program?
I am in a Paralegal program and I need to write a letter to a municipal court judge asking for an adjournment on a DWI case. I have all of the facts that I need, and all of the principals of law to write in my letter. I am just not sure about form the letter should be in. I am looking for help in finding the proper formating. I have the NJ rules book, but it isn't helping.

Under that you briefly state the ultimate facts entitling the client to an adjournment.

"The issue presented in this motion is whether or not the Court should grant an adjournment. Defendant, Mr. X argues the answer is "yes" for the reasons argued below.
The next header you make is "Argument"
Under argument you write, the relevant grounds for granting an adjournment pursuant to NJ Stat. etc. (cite the statute or court rule) are as follows: List the relevant one(s) only.
The Defendant is entitled to an adjournment based upon the the holding of State v. Mr. Y, XXX NJ Super. XXXX (19XX).
In another case on point, the NJ Court of Appeals, held: "quote holding here" and then cite that case.
YOU FILL IN THE REST OF THE ARGUMENT HERE.
Next you make another heading called "Conclusion"
Based upon the foregoing facts, the rule, statute and law, the Court should grant the motion as aforepled.
Finally, you add your WHEREFORE clause.

Will the black bars on the sides of regular programming harm my LCD TV or cause burn in?
The owner's manuel recommends not watching non-HD programming with the black bars on the sides of the screen. However, watching non-HD programming in full screen mode will distort the picture. Will the original square picture with the black bars cause any type of burn in? Why would the LCD TV have the feature of a 4:3 or square screen if it was harmful to the TV? Thanks.

The side bars will appear to stay on the screen if you watch this non HD programming for multiple hours. It will not harm the TV but may cause an inconvenience or annoyance until the screen resets and the bars go away. Normally about 15 minutes of full screen viewing will get rid of it.

Programming is like a language. It isn't enough to learn a language, you have to have ideas to put into words in the language or the language is pretty useless. If you don't have background knowledge in a variety of fields, you won't be of much use as a programmer because you won't have the knowledge and ideas needed to program.

What programming language can submit information into a form on a website and send it?
I am making a program with actionscript 2 and zinc, and need to log in to a site with given username and password. The site's send button uses javascript if that makes any difference.
My program opens a browser instance so I was thinking Visual Basic might be able to fill in the form mechanically. Or is there some other way?

Also it must work with all (major) browsers.

I need assistance in keeping a count of certain tasks that I do. So instead of using Word or Excel to type out numbers myself, is there a program that can do this for me? For example, it may have a button that I can click on it and for each time that happens it increments a number. By the end of the day, if I had clicked on it say 50 times, then the number would be 50, and I immediately would know how many were done. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

well, if it's like most of the web based games i saw - you do stuff by basically submitting form parameters (which you of course find on html source in form tags). so, ie to login you would do http post (or get) www.whatever.com/login.php? user=xxx%26amp;pass=xxx
you have to figure out what the parameters are by digging through html. most likely your program would have to do so also - ie if you go to shop.php your program has to parse the html to find what is for sale, and then submit (or not) to ie pay.php with parameters of whatever you want to buy.

I am trying to update my programming/software engineering skills to better suit the current environment. I have had two introductory classes, which were mainly focused on Java and C. I know the basics of programming in these languages, and I know what data structures are (stacks, queues, trees, etc.). However, I am having trouble with setting up the GNU development tools such as make and gdb, as well as with the concept of a makefile, since we were never taught about this. I'm also trying to understand this software engineering/lifecycle stuff, and how it can fit into the design of software.

I would like to write stories for my 3-year old niece about her experiences with me. What is the difference between Release and Debug modes in C programming language?
When I run my program in debug and release formats I have two different final solutions.I do not know what is the problem?because all the conditions are the same also I use one seed point for both versions.

What is the best program to help clean up your computer and make it run faster?
My computer is moving like a turtle and I keep getting low disk space warnings. So, I took off almost all my pictures, movie clips, college papers, powerpoints, etc. that I could but I still keep getting the same errors! I've looked at different websites to purchase a program to help me out, but I am not sure which one is the best.
FYI - I don't think it is a virus because I use Norton, which has always been pretty reliable.

Reply:many cleaning utilities have already been mentioned...but you may also want to make sure that:
1. You have enough RAM (you can't get too much!)(get same type...best would be from the OEM...make sure it is compat.)
2. You also may need to 'flash the BIOS' ...= upgrading it to the newest version....
these are 2 very important factors when trying to maximize the speed of your computer.
Reply:The truth of what is slowing your computer down... Windows itself. Every time it has an update to protect against flaws in Windows, it causes the PC to slow down by bloating Windows even more than it already is.. It is also the cause of the low disk space.
To speed up your computer, you need to disable some of the automatic startup programs. Especially IM's, Browsers and other programs you can start by using the All Programs list.
You need to go into System Information to change your startup files. You may need to get a bigger Hard Disk Drive. Or, at least, a second HDD to store music, movies, files and other personal information. On the second HDD, you can also put the swap file and all temp folders to free up the main HDD. This second HDD can be external or internal depending on its use.
Also, Nortons doesn't always catch all viruses. No antivirus program can. But, at least you are using one. When you get tired of paying for this protection, you can get free services that work just as good, or sometimes better than Norton or McAfee.... And, they are free.
Reply:1. Use an anti-spyware software like AdAware, latest version. Such software can be downloaded from the Net or found in CDs attached to PC magazines. This is because Adware slows down a computer heaps.

1. You have enough RAM (you can't get too much!)(get same type...best would be from the OEM...make sure it is compat.)

Reply:The truth of what is slowing your computer down... Windows itself. Every time it has an update to protect against flaws in Windows, it causes the PC to slow down by bloating Windows even more than it already is.. It is also the cause of the low disk space.
To speed up your computer, you need to disable some of the automatic startup programs. Especially IM's, Browsers and other programs you can start by using the All Programs list.
You need to go into System Information to change your startup files. You may need to get a bigger Hard Disk Drive. Or, at least, a second HDD to store music, movies, files and other personal information. On the second HDD, you can also put the swap file and all temp folders to free up the main HDD. This second HDD can be external or internal depending on its use.
Also, Nortons doesn't always catch all viruses. No antivirus program can. But, at least you are using one. When you get tired of paying for this protection, you can get free services that work just as good, or sometimes better than Norton or McAfee.... And, they are free.

The rest of that stuff WOULD be programming...but it's not anywhere near a beginner's level. But for a beginner's book (and I hate to be a cliche, but) would be Programming For Dummies or one of the similar manuals.

C#.Net seems to be the language everyone is spouting as for Win based apps and you can get an Express edition of the IDE (Integrated Development Environment) from Microsoft for free. You will also note that Microsoft has other EXPRESS editions of the .Net IDE available. To avoid confusion I would choose one, as mentioned above C# seems to be where the industry is headed as opposed to VB but either would offer a great learning experience.
Do not short cut your learning, take it one step at a time, you have time to learn.

Most community schools will have a program. Checking with Latino Organizations would be the first place to ask.

What program is the best to help me lose weight?
I want to lose weight so i want to know which is the best program to get into? I know of only three Slim fast, weight watchers, and jenny craig. I really need help with this and i need something that wont cost a lot to do either. please give all the info you can also list any websites that will help. thanks in advance.

If so, my mother dieted on Lite %26amp; Easy for over a year, they have over 100 (or 250 i can't remeber) different meal types, as well as really yummy lunches and you can order deserts or just buy the weight watchers ice creams or cookies. Variety is best when you are dieting or you will get desperate for 'normal' food and fall of the wagon.
Reply:the only diet plan that works is one u can stick to and even make it ur everyday thing like eating little portions every 3-4 hours and having lots of liquids its not hard and ur never hungry to go get a extra large burger combo
eat salads fruits vegies less carbs but some carbs are good and protiens are good for u and stop eating 3 hours befor u go to sleep

I would make meals of just plain rice, grilled chicken and a vegetable and eat that at least 3 times a day. it becomes boring. very boring. but you get results.

I had a stroke a few years back, now cannot get health insurance. I need to see a specialists about my knee and will no doubt need surgery... I have no money to get this done... what kind of assisted programs will help me. I am a senior citizen and we are retired living mostly on social security...Can anyone help me?

Many senior citizens who are low income and on social security qualify for Medicaid. Go to the social service agency in your county to apply. Are you over 65? Then you should be on Medicare. If you took early SS, then you can't get Medicare until 65, but you may still qualify for Medicaid.

How can I go about finding an entry level programming job more effectively?
Well, I just graduated in Jan. and the job hunt has been slow...not stagnant, but not the most promising...Anyway, I am looking for an entry level applications/systems programming or firmware engineering position or even internship and I am having a very hard time finding companies that have jobs suitable for someone fresh out of college. My main job hunting resource is Dice.com (I use it almost exclusively), but I also have a few various other methods that I use occasionally. What can I do to make my job search more effective? It is a very frustrating situation and I don't want to be temping for the next year...Please help, thanks.
