I am new to this, but am wondering if any of you have adult children in residential treatment programs for people with developmental disabilities? How do you go about funding something like this? Is social security there to help with what I can't cover out of pocket? Any advice or experiences would be very helpful, and thank you.
How can I find help paying for a residential treatment program for my developmentally disabled son?
look in your yellow pages under gov. look for dept. of disabilities. if your son was diagnosed before the age of 21 the state well pick up the whole bill. as well as fund anything else he needs.
if you son has social sercurity then you know about red tape and hanging in there sometimes it is very easy and sometimes you have to patient.
Reply:People with physical challenges should be encouraged to pursue any independence possible, not be institutonalized. Report It
Reply:it really depends on what state you live in.... every state has a different criteria when diagnosing someone as developmentally disabled.... in California you have to be diagnosed before the age of 18.... after 18 years of age it is considered brain trauma.... what state do you live in? If you do live in CA then your son should have coverage given to you by the state and I'm assuming that any state does provide assistance....
