What is public programming? Does it help the public in anyway?
public programming just means its supported by the public, rather than by big companies who would require advertisements. That's why when you watch CNN, you have to watch a commercial every 2 seconds.
When you watch news on public television or listen to public radio, you get to hear the actual news without interruption of ads.
They are supported by the "public" or regular citizens and smaller companies by donations. They usually do "pledge drives" 2-3 times a year to raise money to keep the programs running.
