What is a good beginning programming language?

I want to get into some programming. What are some good languages to start learning? Not too difficult. Something that a teen will understand and can teach their self.

What is a good beginning programming language?
If you hav't done any, start with HTML and Javascript. But remeber, HTML is not a real programming langauge... more of a way to format text.

Basic syntax, over C/Java, is easier and more intuitive for the average person. Visual Basic 6 is very easy, it is often the first real programming language taught to students. If you can get your hands on VB6, I recommend that as a good starting point.
Reply:It really depends on what you want to use it for.

The question is kind of vague.

The question is just like saying, what foreign language should I start off learning? Do you see how it depends on what you want to use it for?

You might want to rephraze your question and ask something more specific, such as "What language should I use to develop a game in windows?", or "What language is used in the development of X program on Linux?" or "What is the more predominant computer language?" or "What language is used to design web pages and web content?"

There are a lot of different programming languages out there, each suited to a specific application. HTML, JAVA, C#, SQL for webpages, C#, C, C++, VB for computer programs. Scripting languages like Basic, etc etc.

C and/or C++ language might be a good language to start off with IMO.

The difficulty is all dependent upon the student. Some thing that comes easy for 1 person, may come hard for another.
Reply:I'd recommend Python and C#, also I'm writing a blog about it, take a look http://codinglessons.blogspot.com/ (sorry for the spam :P)
Reply:C++,

VB (this is very easy)
Reply:html

from there move on to xhtml and then further ....
