What is the best programming language to learn for programming windows apps and for the internet?

I'm new to programming and i want to teach myself to write programs for windows and the internet.

What is the best programming language to learn for programming windows apps and for the internet?
If you want to be a programmer, you need C.

If you are a scientist, get python

If you are a web developer, try perl or php

If you like useless riddles, and brain teasers, buy a C++ book.

If you are a girl and/or like suffering for the sake of fashion, you'll want Java

If you are just toying around with a computer, and trying to impress your friends then C# and VB are the best, but Delphi might work too.
Reply:for windows apps VB is the easier option...u can also go for C++.

For Internet, It is always java.
Reply:For Windows apps, C/C++, C# and Delphi are preferable. Java is also available, but must run through a virtual machine so isn't ideal. Visual Basic is a Basic - 'nuff said.

For web apps, PHP and ASP are probably the most widely supported technologies, but they aren't the only ones.

I'd suggest doing plenty of research before getting too carried away to make sure the language you choose is right for you. It is worth bearing in mind that there is no such thing as a "best" language - they all have different strengths and weaknesses - it's up to you to choose one that is fit for it's intended purpose.

Rawlyn.
Reply:Visual basic for Windows, Java for Internet.
Reply:you havent said what you want to do with your programs.

However if you just want to have a bit of fun while learning and not jump in at the (very) deep end why not try flash. you can do animations which can be rewarding very quickly and using action scripting (flash language) you can learn the basic concepts of programming (conditions, loops, etc) then you can make a more informed decision about what your next language should be.
