After graduating from college this spring, I want to take a year off to help the less fortunate by traveling to third world countries. Are there any programs out there that would help me to do that? I know the Peace Corps requires at least 2 years of service..is there any program that requires less then that time since I only have a year off?

Try idealist.com; they are a database for internships and I think they have listings for other countries. I am looking for service work as well.
Reply:You should actually be able to get some information on this from your college's career center. You might also look into City Year and its parent organization, AmeriCorps, which are great sources for volunteering opportunities, although I think those mostly focus on domestic programs.

I need help programming a flash button.?
I am trying to make a flash button that constantly moves even when the button is not being hovered over or clicked on. It doesn't need to do anything when it is hovered over or clicked on but could someone please help me with the programming.

I need a good community based kids program for my kids to join or help start up. Do you know a good one?
I'm looking to start something for my kids, mainly after school, something a home schooler parents would like so that other families could join them. (I'm not a home schooler parent). I would like them to have hands on experiences in being able to develope small skills to build character and confidence and to be able to help themseves and others. At home skills, tools, car care, any thing related to or around the home including cooking and sewing. Looking for projects but nothing in the way of sports; excepting hiking and camping. Any thing out doors would be great. Also day trips to business "friendly" local business locations, including farms and ranches. I'm a retired teacher and counselor. I live 30-40 miles south of Fort Worth, TX.

I need a freeware program to help me remember things—for example to help me remember vocabulary words, phrases or even peoples names. I need the program to repeatedly ask me questions. If you know of any freeware programs I would appreciate it.

I have heard doing new things improves your memory. Doesn't have to be large differences but small ones are significant as well.
Like listening to a different kind of music. Or taking a different route to work or school. If you drive put a piece of tape on the steering wheel or bike handle.. then on the other or another part of it tape a piece of velvet or something scratchy. When you feel something different under your hand you are conscious of it and it gets your mind going.
See if your friends and family would be willing to have a word of the day and when you like the word deem it the word of the week. Encourage others to use it often.
Try a new language. Instead of listening to music on your headphones buy a knew language CD and play it instead when you're doing daily things.

I'm a Web-designer, I want to get into programming - specifically mobile applications, where do I start?
I know basic HTML, javascripting. Nothing more. Which is the best way to start off in developing mobile applications on Google Android? Also, what do I need to know to program for Google OpenSocial? Is there something more to J2ME and Google Android when you talk about Mobile Programming?

It's almost like saying, "I want to program for national security software, where do I start?" Most mobile phone apps and games are java applets, so I guess the place to begin would be Java. Get yourself a beginner's Java book and start practicing. Once you get very familar, you can optimize your work well enough that it will run well and leave a small footprint for a mobile device.
